I comfortably wear these for a full working day, full of teams calls. Audio and mic are great, as is the battery life. Bought from Amazon but so chuffed after several months, I thought it worth leaving a review here.
As per my other reviews, I have been ignored by this company, have tired all ways to get out of replacing a 3 month old pair of Opencomm headphones, not only is their connectivity issues, now they had stopped pairing altogether. I wouldnt buy them as many of them fail with a "known" communication error - look on google loads of complaints, they say they are backed up with a 2 year warranty - What warranty? they wont replace mine unless I pay for return postage, and IF they replace them under warranty, the replacement pair are sent with NO new warranty, WHAT........I will leave that there, when they work awesome product, but a big gamble if they dont, even on thier own website if you look at the FAQ under connectivity issues, the answer is please make a warranty claim, so they know of the issue yet keep selling them, aweful customer service, will take you many attempts to get a response, the customer service is not in the UK but in Asia somewhere, so think twice before you buy for yourself or as a present!
I would only buy from Aftershokz if you are willing to gamble you wont get a device with know connectivity issues - do your online research and you will see there are hundreds of comments from people over these issues - you cant update the firmware on these devices, so there is no fix, and the warranty, dont get me started. Even though my opencomm's were only 3 months old and had a "known issue", it took 5 emails, 4 live chats and compaints on social media to get an agreement to exchange them. However, Aftershoks would only replace them at my postage costs with an undetermined timescale where they would test them to see what this issue is, meanwhile I would have no headphones for work. To top this off, IF they decided to replaced them under warranty for the 'known' issue, the replacement item would no longer be covered by a new product warranty! Yep thats customer service for you, since I wouldnt accept this unbelievable and I quote " One time offer" they have stopped answering my emails, so I am, stuck with a product I cant use......so think long and hard, the product is awesome when if works, but if it doesnt, you loose your money as they wont help, your choice!
Firstly they are excellent headphones, I have bought 2 Aeropex and now an opencomm for our household and 3 aeropex as gifts, everyone loves them. The bad point, during lockdown I wanted an opencomm for working from home, the UK Aftershokz had a very long wait for stock, so I bought from what I thought was an authorised reseller. It was new, sealed and had a warranty card, so registered it. When they work they are simly brilliant, but now mine have developed a fault, when pairing more than one device via multi pair, the last paired device keeps dropping and every minand gives annoying beeps, I have spent hours with support, reset it 7 times, eventually their product developement team admitted thay have seen this issue with iphone 12 and airpods but dont have a resolution, they agreed to replace them as faulty - and then the kicker, as I bought it from a "non-authorised" seller, they wont honour the warranty even though its registered and they know the issue is a tech fault - no offer of help or swap, just sorry, goodbye. As they have admitted its a known fault and I am obviously a repeat customer I expected more - so social media here I come to vent, hopefully this will make you think twice about buying because of thier support. As I said, when they work they are just amazing, I can take calls from multiple devices and hear other people in the room as well, but when they dont work, tough luck you are on your own.
I had a pretty good wireless headset, had single headphone for long use comfort. But after spending many hours on calls daily, started to get uncomfortable.
Opencomm is awesome... Usually forget to take it off, even after a day of long calls! Battery is great, sound is great, not had any complaints on sound quality of the mic.
Microphone is positioned far enough away to not need constant messing to do standard things like sip tea, or even scoff a quick cream cake between calls!
I have Aftershokz headphones for running so I didn't expect any discomfort, and these are fantastic. If new to bone conduction headphones, start with the volume low and increase slowly to comfortable level.
No more warm, sweaty eats and having to keep switching headphone around to switch ears. With this working on both ears, the sound is encompassing, and don't need to remove them to talk to others between calls.
If you can justify spending the money, and all day comfort could be that justification, get some!
I read that these only remember one device, but I managed to pick up two separate devices without having to re-pair every time, just reconnect via the device.
Game changer in the home office where online meetings are the new norm! And comes with a hard case if you need to take with you to the office... Nothing but praise after a couple of months use!
Very happy purchaser!
Testing conducted by AfterShokz using OpenComm produced in September 2020 paired with iPhone X (iOS 13.7). The test environment temperature was 25℃ with 320-kbps MP3 white noise played at a volume set to around 68% of the maximum volume (The A-weighted sound pressure level was 66.7±1.0dBA, measured 10mm from the face of the transducers with the headset hung in the air).
Testing consisted of full OpenComm battery discharge while playing audio until the headset stopped playback. The duration time is counted as the listening time of the headset. The test result shows that the OpenComm has a listening time of up to 8 hours.
Testing consisted of full OpenComm battery discharge while the test person spoke at a normal volume (the sound pressure level was 90dBA, measured 10cm from the mouth) for a certain period of time and the speakers were not working. The average power consumption of the headset was measured by the DC power analyzer. Based on the calculation between average power consumption and battery capacity, OpenComm has a talk time of up to 16 hours.
Testing consisted of full OpenComm battery discharge while OpenComm was powered on without any operation. The average power consumption of the headset was measured by the DC power analyzer. Based on the calculation between average power consumption and battery capacity, OpenComm has a standby time of up to 14 days.
In actual use, battery life depends on device settings, environment, usage, and many other factors.
