- Eilish McColgan tells her story about her rise to the top in the world of elite running.
“It was never about proving anyone wrong... but more about proving myself right. There’s always going to be people that don’t believe in you."
Born into a world-class athletic family, Eilish McColgan had the legacy of her last name to live up to.
“I thought running was something that everyone’s parents did. Mum’s Olympic medal was tucked away in a drawer in our house and my parents just never really made a big deal about their careers and achievements.”
Eilish was the driving force behind her running career from the moment she stepped onto the track as a child. Her story is an inspirational one, reaching the London Olympics in spite of a career-ending injury and continuing to push through no matter what was happening.
“For me running is a sense of escape. I don’t think about much else. I have to concentrate and make sure the noise around me isn’t there. I like the sense of improvement. It’s constant. Each time I know I’m becoming faster, fitter, stronger. I’m pushing myself to the limits of what I can do.”
